Fresh Apple Cookies

Ingredients

2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
½ tsp nutmeg
½ cup butter
¼ cup milk
1 1/3 cups light brown sugar, packed
1 egg, beaten
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup chopped raisins
1 cup finely chopped apples, unpared

Instructions

Sift together flour, salt, soda, and spices and set aside. Cream together sugar and butter. Add egg and mix well. Stir in half of the dry ingredients. Add nuts, raisins, and apples. Mix in milk and rest of dry ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheets and bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Cookies should be placed 2 inches apart. Frost if desired.

Notes

Fabulous Frosting

5 Tbs flour
1 cup milk
Cook together over slow flame. Stir constantly. Cool.
Cream together well:
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar

Add to flour and milk mixture. Cream until light and fluffy.

If a colored icing is wanted, add a few drops of food coloring. Beat before adding too much coloring in order to obtain the right color.
