Chocolate Nuggets

Chocolate Nuggets - Feature

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate…if you love chocolate, this is the cookie for you! To be honest, I’m not the biggest chocolate fan, but I REALLY like these Chocolate Nuggets! OMG, they are so good!

Cookies by Bess has pages and pages of cookie recipes that include chocolate and I’ve made several of them. I love that most of the recipes call for melted chocolate versus just adding chocolate chips.

Most of the recipes include milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate…Chocolate Nuggets lists unsweetened chocolate, which isn’t my favorite, I prefer milk chocolate. But as I’ve been doing with all Cookies by Bess recipes, I stayed true to the recipe and used the unsweetened chocolate. As usual, Bess knows best…the unsweetened chocolate was perfect! In fact, Chocolate Nuggets are a perfect cookie…even if you aren’t a chocolate lover! ?

I rate Chocolate Nuggets 2-stars for cookie difficulty. As with most of Bess’ cookies, the recipe isn’t hard, it just has several steps so can be a bit more time consuming. In general, this recipe is well worth the steps…I highly recommend trying Chocolate Nuggets…chocolate lover or not!

As usual, I got started by pulling all my ingredients together.

Next, I started melting the chocolate squares so it had time to cool some before mixing with the butter, sugar, salt, milk, egg, and vanilla.

I mixed all those ingredients together and then added the chocolate.

Its awesome how the dough completely changes color changes when adding the chocolate. Such a nice rich color!

Next, I added the flour and mixed well.

The dough seemed to have a perfect consistency for rolling, but I chilled the dough for an hour first per the recipe instructions.

I got set up and ready to roll the dough balls. The recipe says to roll in chocolate shots or nuts. I did both!

Do you know what chocolate shots are? I’ve Googled “chocolate shots” in the past and found they are basically chocolate sprinkles. Isn’t that awesome! I Googled “chocolate shots baking” again just to see if I remembered correctly and all I could find was alcoholic chocolate shot recipes! Ha Ha! I had to dig pretty deep to find the chocolate sprinkles reference again.

I started rolling the dough balls in chocolate shots.  It was a pleasant surprise to see the shots stick to the dough balls so well!

Once again, the recipe doesn’t specify which type of nut to use. This time I decided to use pecans. Rolling the dough balls in the nuts also worked really well! There was no issue with the nuts or shots sticking to the dough balls!

I ended up baking a cookie sheet full of chocolate shot dough balls and nuts dough balls.

The dough balls puffed up a little while baking, but they didn’t spread so I was able to pack the cookie sheets!

The cookies were easy to remove from the cookie sheets, even without greasing the cookie sheets! This is really a great cookie recipe! Easy to make and really easy to eat!

I had so much fun taking picture of the baked cookies! Cookies with chocolate shots, cookies with nuts…they looked different, tasted different…but both were just plain AWESOME!

Chocolate Nuggets certainly photograph well! Lots of personality! Can’t you just see the flavor in these little Nuggets? So yummy!

If you can’t tell, I really love this recipe! Not only do Chocolate Nuggets taste good, you get 2 different cookies out of the same recipe! You get flavor, variety, and lots and lots of chocolate. Just about perfect if you ask me!

Way to go Grandma Bess…Chocolate Nuggets are just about PERFECT!

I hope you agree…I’d love to hear form you…please let me know if you make Chocolate Nuggets and what you think…

XXOO,

Janet
